2012 New Year, New Opportunities
There are several key indicators that support the position that the property cycle has bottomed out and is now showing positive signs of recovery. The first is the establishment of Economic Drivers. The Sunshine Coast has finally witnessed the commencement of 4 major economic drivers; The Sunshine Coast University Hospital; expansion and utilization of the Sunshine Coast Airport, including securing of fly-in fly-out mining opportunities; approval of the Caloundra South development; and approval of the Woolworths masterplanned development in the Sippy Downs Town Centre. These major drivers will restore confidence and provide direct injections into our industry sector. A Political Change is in the air. No matter what side of the political ledger you support, most agree that after 13 years of a Labour Government in power, it is time for a change. Now is the time to reduce the red tape; reduce the onerous layers of planning that have been introduced by the State Agencies; and rethink the policies that represent a disincentive to investment in property. With the State election now scheduled for the 24th of March, change is on the way. From a Local Government perspective, we are also set for change with elections to be held late in April. The Coast needs Strong Leadership from a unified Council, a Council that will promote our region and support the existing businesses. The Coast needs a Council who will work with the State Government to deliver infrastructure, deliver jobs and establish the Sunshine Coast as the prefered region for investment, tourism and lifestyle. KHA Development Managers will do our part to assist the Coast's development industry's revival, delivering timely approvals and striving to provide the highest level of service to our clients. I have been asked several times this year, "Why are you so confident that 2012 will see a recovery for the Sunshine Coast's Development Industry?"
